Ironton Sunday school goer still going strong after 30 years
If school students had the attendance record Carol Ison has had at Sunday school, teachers would be rejoicing.
Ison has not missed a day of Sunday school in 30 years. She was presented with a pin July 17 from Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Ironton for her attendance record.
"I appreciate the Lord," Ison said. "I've always had the health and desire to go."
There may be more than her faith getting her there though.
"It's always worked out," Ison said. "I didn't set out to do it."
Ison said when she would go out of town, somehow things would fall into place and she would get to go to a church service whether at the hotel or another church.
"Even if we couldn't go to our regular church, we would find one," Ison said.
Her 30 years have been split between two churches. Ison and her husband Lloyd were saved in 1975 at Ohio Furnace Enterprise Baptist Church where they attended for 22 years. They have been with Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Ironton for the past 8 years.
Ison said Pine Grove continued to recognize her attendance track record from her first church.
In her 30 years, Ison has taught or helped teach Sunday school, usually kindergarten, for about 20 years and worked with the vacation Bible school. She is a past president of the Ladies Christian Church Circle of Ohio Furnace Enterprise Baptist Church and currently a member of the Gideon Auxiliary.
