Lady Hornets to play for D3 district softball title

CHILLICOTHE — Last season, the Coal Grove Lady Hornets won the first sectional championship in school history.
This season, the Lady Hornets are going for their first district title.
Coal Grove beat the Huntington Huntsmen 6-1 on Wednesday in the Division III district semifinals at Unioto High School.
Coal Grove will now play top-seeded Wheelersburg at 11 a.m. Saturday in the district finals.
Kasey Murphy pitched a five-hitter, struck out five and walked just one while the defense made only one error.
Huntington pitcher Kylee Kellough gave up nine hits as she struck out 13 and walked one. However, the Lady Huntsmen made four errors that led to five unearned runs.
The Lady Hornets scored five runs in the top of the first inning and then led Murphy do her thing. Huntington got its run in the bottom of the first.
Addi Dillow led the Lady Hornets’ offense as she went 3-for-4 at the plate. Macy Malone was 1-3 with two runs batted in and Gracie Riley was 2-4.
Delaney Napier and Murphy were both 1-3 with an RBI, Lauren Meyer 1-3 and Lauren Crum had an RBI.
Kearra Strasbaugh went 2-3 with an RBI for Huntington.
