Local dancers earn top places in competition
A team from Yvonne DeKay School of Dance took top places in a regional dance competition earlier this month.
The group attended the “That’s Entertainment” event in Indianapolis on March 8 and competed in the Jazz, Tap, Musical Theatre, Lyrical, Contemporary and Hip Hop categories.
They were coached by Yvonne D. Sinnott, Mitzi Sinnott, Abbie Crowe, Katlyn Fowler and Nikki Langer.
Members of the Petite Team were Anna Linville, Norah-Kate Smith, Ashtyn Meadows, Makayla Lusk and Zoey Melvin. Members of the Junior Team were Morgan Travis, Katie Musick, Addison Mullins, Emily York, Willow Wilson and Londyn Haney.
Senior Team members were Macy Perry, Mia Davidson, Taylor Bowden, Briana Melvin, Amara McWhorter, Kelie Howell and Kaeli Huff.
All of the routines took top placing and qualified for a national competition to be held in Sandusky.
Huff, 14, an eighth grader at Ironton Middle School, competed in a Contemporary Solo, scoring a Platinum award and third over-all for ages 13-15.
She also won the “Teen Miss” title, performing another Contemporary/Open routine and will compete this summer for the National Miss Title.
She earned the highest score by the judges and was awarded Elite status as one of the best dancers in the entire competition, which featured more than 400 dancers.
